My journey began in St. Ann, Jamaica, where I was born into a tight-knit family deeply rooted in faith. At the age of three, I migrated to the United States, growing up amidst the rich cultural tapestry of Freeport. Raised in a diverse community, I learned early on the values of humility, resilience, and compassion, guided by the wisdom that "hard times do not have favorites."
A proud product of Freeport's public school system, I graduated high school in 2015 with a passion for understanding how governance shapes our communities. At Canisius College in Buffalo, I embraced the Jesuit principles of service and community betterment, gaining invaluable insights into the interconnectedness of society. My higher education journey further deepened my commitment to making a positive impact through public service.
Upon earning my degree in 2019, I returned to Long Island and joined Miller & Milone, where I assisted individuals facing medical insurance challenges. Witnessing firsthand the disparities in access to healthcare, I became increasingly committed to advocating for equitable solutions. It was during this time that God put it on my heart to champion for senior citizens and the disabled community, deepening my resolve to make a difference.
Amidst the unprecedented challenges of 2020, I joined the Academy Charter School as a 2nd-grade teaching assistant during the height of the pandemic. Recognizing the critical need to close the digital divide, I led initiatives to provide technical support and training, ensuring a smooth integration of technology for the classrooms, families, and staff. This pivotal experience exposed the deep-seated flaws in local school systems, igniting my passion to champion for equitable education and become a steadfast advocate for those whose voices often go unheard.
Driven by my fascination with the transformative power of technology, I pursued an intensive software engineering bootcamp to equip myself with the skills needed to empower the next generation through coding education. Establishing an after-school coding program and later transitioning to the high school sector, I witnessed the profound impact of fostering technological literacy, enabling students to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape. Beyond my professional endeavors, I take immense pride in serving as a mentor and advocate for students, providing guidance and support to ensure their academic success and holistic well-being. These experiences have equipped me with empathy, leadership, and a deep understanding of community needs, essential qualities for effectively serving as a civil servant.
As I embark on this journey to represent the 18th district, I am driven by a profound sense of duty to champion the needs and aspirations of every resident. Through my diverse experiences, I have learned firsthand the values of resilience, empathy, and unwavering determination in overcoming challenges. With a steadfast belief in the power of community collaboration and inclusive leadership, I am dedicated to fostering constructive dialogue, addressing systemic inequities, and advocating for policies that uplift and empower every individual.
Together, let us forge a path of progress guided by the principles of justice, compassion, and opportunity for all. As your Assemblywoman, I pledge to listen attentively, to continuously learn, and to tirelessly advocate for a future where every voice is not only heard but actively respected. I am committed to ensuring that every person is valued and that every community thrives. Join me in shaping a brighter tomorrow for the 18th district and Nassau County as a whole.
